The second most populous nation and the seventh largest in
the world according to land mass, India is quite impressive and
offers much for travelers who want to experience a different
side of Asia. To give you an idea of how large their country
actually is, consider that they have around 4,700 miles of
coastline. And yes, some of that is home to some impressive
beaches if lounging in the sand and surf is your idea of a great
vacation. Beyond the coasts, though, the country has more to it
than that.
For example, you may not know that the Indus Valley Civilisation
was one of the earliest civilizations in the world to come
together in a single place for the common good. There are many
remnants of the Indus Valley Civilisation around today. If
you're into history and archeology, you're going to be amazed at
some of the treasures (literally) that are available to see all
around India. Many thousands of years later, the people of India
found themselves under control of the British East Indies
Trading Company. Then, on August 15, 1947, India gained
independence. It was at this time that the country of Pakistan
was formed as well.
Despite it's rough history, India became one of the world's
nuclear powers in the 1970s. From there, the country has
steadily been working on becoming an economic power in the world
- and they're succeeding. If you take a trip to India, you will
see how far they have come over the last few decades. There are
many modern marvels to behold in the country if you decide to
travel there.
As mentioned, India is really large, which makes it difficult to
see the whole country on one trip - unless that trip is several
months long! While most people can't afford an extended
vacation, if you're smart and plan beforehand, you're sure to be
able to fit in some of the many wonderful places to see in
India.
Taj Mahal - Located in
Agra, the Taj Mahal was constructed by over 20,000 people. It
took over 20 years to complete. It's quite a site to see,
however. If you're in India, you're going to want to make sure
you stop here just to marvel at the beauty and workmanship.
Mumbai - This ancient and
modern city is a powerhouse when it comes to economic growth.
If you want to see modern India and the direction they're
headed in, a trip to Mumbai is in order. You may be surprised
by what you find in the city.
Jaipur - Located in the
Northeast - near Pakistan - the "pink city" earns its name
because that's the color used on most of the historical
buildings in the area. It's an interesting place to visit if
you're into history.
Sikkim - This small
Himalayan region is breathtakingly beautiful. Within view of
Kanchenjunga, the world's third highest mountain, the area is
pretty amazing, especially if you see the view from some of
the "hill stations" in the area.
There are many, many more places to see in India, but this
should whet your appetite enough to get you thinking about
traveling there for your next vacation or holiday.
